Mobility

The principle of mobility at the University of Luxembourg

The University of Luxembourg subscribes to the principle of international student mobility pursuant to the Bologna agreements (1999).

Mobility is a real winning asset for students. By living and studying abroad and coming into contact with another academic culture, students are inevitably put in a situation that enables them to question and assess their personal choices, ways of thinking and of approaching their studies.
Students who wish to study abroad must enrol and earn at least 30 ECTS credits.

The ECTS credits earned abroad are recognized by the course director on the basis of the previously signed learning agreement.

Exemption

An exemption is granted by the Dean on the recommendation of the Course director for students who:

• Suffer from an illness requiring specific treatment and/or who have a disablement of such nature as to reduce their mobility considerably;
• Have family obligations that prevent them from being away from the family home for an extended period ( Rectorate decision of 8 May 2006);
• Come from a third, non-EEA state and can produce a secondary school leaver’s certificate from that state (Rectorate decision of 10 July 2007);
• Present a proof of employment for the study period of at least 20 hours per week.

Students who have earned:

• a diploma after at least 4 semesters of a university education abroad;
• at least 25 ECTS credits (to be validated by the Course director) in a foreign university (these credits count for one semester)

are exempted from the mobility requirement.
