Columbia University: a new partner in the field of Law
|
The University of Luxembourg has signed a new student and faculty exchange agreement in the field of Law with Columbia Law School in New York. The agreement has been initiated by the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance. Every year, starting in 2012, it allows two Bachelor or Master students from Luxembourg in the field of law to study at Columbia for one semester. In exchange, Columbia Law School can send two law students a year to Luxembourg. The agreement also foresees short faculty visits between the two schools for giving guest lectures or teaching an intensive course. Columbia University is a private, Ivy League University in Manhattan, New York City. It was founded in 1754 as King's College by royal charter of King George II of England and is the fifth oldest institution of higher education in the United States. After the American Revolution, in 1784, it was renamed Columbia College. In 1896, it was given yet another new name, Columbia University, and today the institution is officially known as Columbia University in the City of New York. That same year, the University's campus was moved from Madison Avenue to its current location in the Morningside Heights neighborhood of Manhattan, where it occupies more than six city blocks. Today, Columbia University encompasses 20 schools and affiliate schools. The University is one of the fourteen founding members of the prestigious Association of American Universities, and has many notable alumni. Among others, the current President of the United States, Barrack Obama, is a graduate of Columbia University. Columbia Law School, founded in 1858, is among the oldest and most distinguished law schools in the United States. Its faculty and graduates have a long tradition of private practice and public service in the judiciary, government, and public interest organisations. Photo (c): Columbia Law School |
