I’m a PhD student at the University of Luxembourg in the research unit IPSE. I’ve studied at the University of Freiburg im Breisgau with main interests in social processes of identities, cultures and spaces. I therefore chose Linguistics and Human Geography as my combination of subjects. My study topics were mainly Luxembourgish language variation and multilingualism in the new media (focus: sociolinguistics) and social and emigration processes in industrial countries (focus: Luxembourg).
I chose the IPSE Research Unit at the UL as the host institution for my doctoral studies because of its interdisciplinary research approach. My combination of subjects correlates with the research idea of IPSE. In my opinion research involving social interactions always has to be analysed in an overall interdisciplinary way and not isolated in different research facilities.
Within IPSE I’m working in the Department for Luxembourgish linguistics and literature. My current PhD project focuses on language variation, communication structures and multilingual practices of Luxembourgish users of Facebook. I analyse the coping strategies of users handling this new kind of online communication. My research interests aresociolinguistics, language in the new media, multilingualism, language variation and youth language.
