Department of Political Science
Founded in December 2006, the Department of Political Science has rapidly expanded to its present complement of over 20 full-time members of staff. The Department forms part of the interdisciplinary Identités, Politiques, Sociétés et Espaces research unit. It provides a methodologically pluralist and distinctively multilingual environment in which to pursue institutional centres of European Union.
The Department has internationally recognised research strenghts in the areas of:
- The Institutions and Policies of the European Union
- Comparative Regional Integration and Social Cohesion (with particular reference on Europe and the Americas)
- Comparative European Politics (with particular reference to the Benelux countries and Small States)
- Politics and Religion
- Migration Studies
- Human Rights
Research Programme
The research activities of the Department are largely encompassed within the wider, institutionally prioritised European Governance research programme .
Doctoral Studies in Political Science

The Department is a sustaining member of the Luxembourg Political Science Association (Luxpol). It also supports the Consortium for Comparative Research on Regional Integration and Social Cohesion (RISC) and the scientific journal Regions and Cohesion. It joined the European Consortium for Political Research and the European Association of Development Research and Training Institutes .
