Language ecology and plurilingual literacies

This research field focuses on learning and teaching languages and literacies as situated social practices in plurilingual contexts. This research activity aims at informing both classroom practice and educational policy.

We focus on developing a deeper understanding of the relationship between multilingual education, young people’s socio-cognitive development, and the diversity of young people’s linguistic and cultural practices. Our aim is to explore ways of overcoming tensions and obstacles to learning that arise when the students’ diverse and multi-voiced home and peer languages, cultures and practices clash with the demands and expectations of a homogenizing school regime.
