Interdisciplinary Lab for Intelligent and Adaptive Systems (ILIAS)
The Interdisciplinary Lab for Intelligent and Adaptive Systems (ILIAS) is a collective of research groups within the Computer Science and Communication Research Unit (CSC ) of the Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication ( FSTC ). Its main goal is to realize and develop research and academic teaching in the area of intelligent and adaptive systems.
The overarching topic is information processing - knowledge modeling and inference - in complex and dynamic environments given limited resources and incomplete or uncertain knowledge. We investigate the theoretical foundations and the algorithmic realizations of systems:
- Intelligent systems : performing complex problem solving and decision making tasks with a high degree of autonomy.
- Adaptive systems : exploiting learning and flexible computing models to deal with opaque and dynamic contexts.
The ILIAS lab is characterized by a strong cross-disciplinary perspective, combining expertise from computer science, operations research, information theory, probability theory, analytic philosophy, discrete math, and logic. On a local level, this also includes collaboration with the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust ( SNT ), the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine ( LCSB ), the Luxembourg School of Finance ( LSF ), and the Laboratoire de Droit Economique ( LDE ).
Research groups :
- DecisionSystems (Prof Dr Raymond Bisdorff)
- Evolutionary and Parallel Computing (Prof Dr Pascal Bouvry )
- Individual and Collective Reasoning Prof Dr Leon van der Torre )
- Information Management/Mining and Net-centric Computing - MINE (Prof Dr Christoph Schommer )
- Information Theory and Stochastic Inference (Prof Dr Ulrich Sorger )
