Second year (semesters 3 & 4) : Specialisation in European Economic and Financial Criminal Law
The specialisation in European Economic and Financial Criminal Law conveys to students the relevant knowledge in law, economics and finance required in the prevention of and crackdown on business and financial crime in the European Union. This advanced course is multidisciplinary and integrates law, economics and finance.
The course programme benefits from a partnership with the University of Nancy 2. Graduates obtain a joint Master certificate after completion of this course, with a Master degree from the University of Luxembourg and, if they select this option, a Master degree from the University of Nancy 2. Further partnerships are currently being set up with the Institute for European Studies of the Free University of Brussels and with Queen Mary, University of London.
A highly qualified faculty
The courses are taught by a unique team , comprising judges from the European institutions as well as specialist independent lawyers and internationally renowned professors. The programme encompasses courses taught in French and English. The University also offers language courses, which start at the beginning of the academic year. On the basis of various teaching methods, including interactive, the following subjects are covered:
- the sources of European criminal law and European cooperation regarding criminal matters,
- protection of the financial interests of the European Communities,
- business crime, financial fraud,
- the economic analysis of law and the economics of crime, anti-money laundering measures
- the responsibilities of legal entities under criminal law
- responsibility for compliance in the financial sector
The course is divided into two semesters, each with a different focus:
- First semester: interactive course with a focus on general topics. These topics are covered in courses conducted by professionals who are experts in their respective fields
- Second semester: seminars with a focus on specific topics
- Interactive seminars and tutorials in small groups ensure the vital participation of students and promote close contact between students and professors and external contributors. Essentially, our objective is to provide a unique university experience, both stimulating and interactive. After attending the introduction to the seminars, students select three seminars which will form the basis of a presentation and written report.

The course comprises approximately 350 hours of lectures spread across two semesters (excluding the placement). In addition to lectures, students must show commitment and participate in preparing the interactive seminars.
The Master degree is conferred following assessment of the exams taken in the first semester of the specialisation, the three dissertations prepared during the second semester of the specialization and the placement, which correspond to a total of 60 ECTS credits.
