The “Scienteens Lab – De Labo fir Jonker” is the first STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) research lab for high-school students in Luxembourg. It was founded by the Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) in 2013 and is under the patronage of Her Royal Highness Crown Princess Stéphanie of Luxembourg.
In 2016, the Faculty of Science, Technology and Communication (FSTC) joined the initiative to offer additional scientific activities.
The Scienteens Lab is an extracurricular place for learning, dedicated especially to high-school students of the classical (3e, 2e, 1ère) and technical high schools (11e, 12e, 13e). It fosters a highly interdisciplinary environment at the intersection of fields such as molecular biology, bioinformatics, biomedicine, mathematics and physics to provide high-school students with a first look at the career of a researcher by offering hands-on experimental workshops.
Experienced scientists and teachers from various disciplines supervise the high-school students in the Scienteens Lab and show them the latest trends and technologies in experimental research.
In recent years, Luxembourg has made its mark on the international research map and we need to prepare the next generation of researchers in this country for a career in science.
