Charles Berg, assistant professor at the University of Luxembourg , studied German, English, educational science, psychology and sociology at the universities of Marburg, Tübingen and Trier. In 1973 he obtained the Wissenschaftliche Prüfung für das Lehramt an Gymnasien in Tübingen. After practical teacher training he worked as a teacher in different secondary schools. He was trained as an educational consultant in the seventies and worked as SPOS-consultant in two secondary schools. In 1985 he obtained a diploma in educational science ( Dipl.-Päd.) at the University of Trier. Since the late eighties he is involved in secondary and primary school teacher training, school book development and educational research. He is a founding member of the Luxembourg Society for Educational Science, of the National Youth Research Centre CESIJE and the Cultural Workshops of ISERP. He currently on behalf of the University of Luxembourg acts as governor of CESIJE. He is a co-director of the University Children Theatre Workshop. He represents Luxembourg in the European Committee of the International Reading Association (since 1990) and in the Council of Europe-European Union Youth Partnership research correspondent network (since 1991). He is a member of ISA RC 34 (Sociology of Youth) and RC04 (Sociology of Education) and of the ESA network “Youth and Generation”. His main research interests and publication domains cover educational and instructional theory, research methodology, literacy and reading research, childhood and youth research.
