Geoffrey Caruso
Associate Professor Research interests
I have developed expertise and have continuous interest in spatial analysis and geographical modelling with a particular focus on understanding the emergence of spatial structures and dynamics. The core of my research work is dedicated to the analysis and modelling of urban forms and of its societal impacts e.g. in terms of well-being and transport, and the consequent implications for sustainable planning. A key characteristic of my research is to integrate geographical analysis techniques (pattern analysis) and models (cellular-automata, agent-based) with urban economics. Current projects include the development of agent-based simulation models grounded on micro-economics for better understanding the emergence of urban sprawl (e.g. S-GHOST model) or for assessing future urban patterns (e.g. MOEBIUS project). Other projects seek to integrate econometrics and GIS-based analyses (hedonic prices) to derive the value of periurban landscape and accessibility. Beyond my interest in urban patterns analysis and urban simulation, I am also conducting and directing research projects in Spatial Data Analysis, Geographical Information Systems (GIS), and Geovisualisation at various scale (e.g. ESPON Database, Luxembourg WEBATLAS projects, MST-LISA, Phnom Penh Retail). My research team is currently composed of 2 project researchers, 4 phD students and a cartographer. Conference presentationsProjectsTeaching activitieslast modified:03 Feb 2012 |
