Languages, Culture, Media and Identities (LCMI)
Unit for socio-cultural research on learning and development
Today, social and cultural phenomena are studied in an interdisciplinary and international way. This holds especially true for educational and linguistic questions that are in the focus of the educational sciences, of social and cognitive psychology, of applied and socio linguistics, of history, of sociology, of policy studies, of philosophy, and of theory of education.
Based on the disciplinary competencies of its members the research unit for socio-cultural research on learning and development “Language, Culture, Media, Identities” (LCMI) is dedicated to this interdisciplinary and international research by addressing two different levels: the social level of the educational system(s) and the level of individual interaction(s) in educational processes. Our understanding of interdisciplinary and international research on social and cultural phenomena is contextual by defining systems and interactions as situated. The results of our research aim at both theoretical and applicable knowledge such as efficient and inclusive pedagogic designs, concepts and tools as well as steering knowledge for educational and language policy in plurilingual and multicultural contexts.
The scientific cooperation and quality of the different research expertise within the research unit are organised in five distinguished research fields:
