Dr. Adelheid Hu is Professor for Educational Science: Multilingual Learning and Literacies at the University of Luxembourg. After the 1 st and 2 nd German State Exam in German and French (teacher in secondary schools), she worked 6 years as a lecturer for German and French at university level in Taiwan (Tunghai University, Taichung and Soochow-University, Taibei). After her return to Germany, she started her PhD thesis at the Ruhr-University in Bochum in the institute of Sprachlehrforschung ; at the same time she was a member of the doctoral school Didaktik des Fremdverstehens at the Justus-Liebig University/Giessen. She got her PhD in 1995 with a thesis on language learning concepts in Taiwan and Germany. After 5 years as scientific collaborator in the Institute of Sprachlehrforschung in Bochum and the publication of her second book on the relationship between Foreign Language Teaching in Schools and migration based multilingualism, she became professor for Educational Science at the university of Hamburg in the field of foreign language pedagogy (2001-2011). Beside her teaching experiences in Taiwan, Adelheid Hu spent one year in France, teaching German at a French school and half a year as guest professor at the university of Franche-Comté (Besançon), teaching Applied Linguistics. From October 2005 until October 2009 she was head of the German Association for Foreign Language Learning Research (DGFF). She is actually principal investigator in the research cluster LiMA (Linguistic Diversity Management in Urban Areas) at the University of Hamburg, where she conducts a research project on the influence of Mandarin Chinese L1 on the learning of further languages (French/Spanish): linguistic and educational perspectives.
