Description: The PIRLS – Progress in International Reading Literacy Skills Study of 2006 has
shown that students have a very negative perception of the school environment in Luxembourgish
schools. As the school environment has a direct influence on teaching and learning quality and on
the literacy skills of pupils, there is an explicit need for action. The project aims at understanding
what factors hinder the development of a good school environment and at suggesting measures
that schools can take to improve the situation.
