Train Teachers for Mainstream Literacy Education

Train Teachers for Mainstream Literacy Education (EUCIM-TE)

European Core Curriculum for Mainstreamed Second Language Teacher Education

Duration: from December 2008 to November 2010
Description: EUCIM-TE is a project financed by the European Commission and coordinated by
the University of Köln. There are seven partner countries: Bulgaria, Germany, Netherlands, Portugal,
Sweden, Slovenia and Great-Britain. Luxembourg is represented by the University of Luxembourg
on the one hand and the Benjamin Club on the other. The project considers new qualification needs
for teachers (and possibly other educators) affected by policy shifts from a "compartmentalised"
concept of school languages teaching to immigrant pupils to an "inclusive education" in which
language education is seen as an integral part of a generalised and common curriculum process,
i.e. mainstreamed literacy education. The objective is to improve the pre- and in-service training of
all teachers for their work with immigrant pupils by elaborating a competence-based European Core
Curriculum for teacher education.
