Exploitation research results

The University of Luxembourg encourages the exploitation of research results by implementing the following measures to optimize the socio-economic exploitation of research results

  • negotiation of IPR licenses which generate new revenue for the University of Luxembourg and the inventors
  • negotiation of IPR transfers when licensing is not possible or not adequate
  • creation of spin-offs which often implies to give an exclusive license to the new company.

The University of Luxembourg applies a sharing revenue model which is very favorable for the employees. Indeed, the gross revenues generated from the commercial exploitation of a patent owned by the University of Luxembourg are equally shared between the University of Luxembourg and the inventors having contributed to the implementation of the invention.

For the specific case of copyrights related to non-patentable software, the University of Luxembourg will afford on a case by case basis to the employee who declares the non patentable software, an equitable share in the revenue generated by the direct exploitation of the non-patentable software.

The details of these rules are foreseen in the document guiding principles for the valorisation of research results and intellectual property rights
