Master in integrated systems biology (académique)

First EU-Atlantis study programme in Cancer and Systems Biology

The first EU-Atlantis study programme of the European Commission supports common Master programmes in European and North American universities. The University of Luxembourg organises it with the Free University Amsterdam, the Roswell Park Cancer Institute in Buffalo (USA) and the State University of New York in Buffalo. This programme, called “CanSys”, is funded with around 400 000 Euro by the European Commission. It trains students in Cancer and Systems Biology and is lead by Prof. Thomas Sauter.

With this new transatlantic programme – the existing Master in Systems Biology and the launching Luxembourg Centre for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) – the University of Luxembourg is in line with the strategy of the Luxembourg government to make biotechnology the focal point of public research.

Aims of the programme

  • CanSys aims to acquaint the participants with the instruments and approaches of Systems Biology and how these new methods can be used in cancer biology.
  • It aims to foster research and development in the area of biomedicine
  • Moreover, it gives the students the opportunity to familiarise themselves with the American and European culture.

Practical information

  • Number of students: 48 (until 2013) – 50% from the USA; 50% from Europe
