1. Which catalogue can I consult ?
The BUL is part of the network of libraries in Luxembourg and feeds the
national collective catalogue Bibnet.lu
.
The catalogue
Bibnet.lu
is therefore the reference for bibliographic research for the libraries in Luxembourg and for the BUL in particular, with some disparities for the different libraries of the University nonetheless.
Kirchberg library
Since February 2009, the reference catalogue is the Luxembourg’s collective catalogue Bibnet.
Limpertsberg library
Works acquired before 1985 are catalogued in traditional paper catalogues. Works acquired after 1985 are available through Bibnet.lu.
Walferdange library
Since April 2007, new acquisitions are registered exclusively in Luxembourg’s collective catalogue Bibnet.
While waiting for the transfer of bibliographical data to be completed by the end of 2012,
the ELICA catalogue
remains the reference to be consulted for documents registered prior to April 2007.
Library "centre d'éveil aux sciences" in Walferdange
The bibliographical data are contained only in
the ELICA catalogue
.
The aim is for the Bibnet catalogue to contain, by 2012, all the documentary collections of the university libraries (Limpertsberg, Kirchberg, Walferdange) acquired since 1985.
We thank you for your understanding during this transition period.

2. How and where can I find a scientific or scholarly article ?
The URL for your search is:
http://www.findit.lu
The
electronic portal
of the National Library and the University of Luxembourg Library features more than 215 databases and more than 45’000 periodicals at this time. You have direct access to the complete text for most of your research.
- If an article is not available on
the electronic portal
, do not hesitate to contact the
catalogue of Luxembourg’s libraries on
Bibnet.lu
. Furthermore, more than 1'000 periodical titles on paper format are available for consultation, e.g. in the University Library or the National Library.
- Worth knowing: millions of electronic articles are now available and openly accessible in archives and periodicals. Have a look: they may prove very useful! To find the electronic repository of an institution or for an academic discipline, you can use
the Directory of Open Access Repositories
(DOAR)
.
- Articles not available on the electronic portal, in the libraries, or in the open access repositories may be ordered through
international library loan (ILL).

3. What is international library loan (ILL) and how can I use it ?
International library loan is a service organised by the National Library to obtain articles or books not available in Luxembourg.
Please read carefully the tips given below before making an international loan request.
-
Students
Students have access to international loan through the National Library either via the interface of the Bibnet catalogue or directly on the premises. The service is invoiced at a rate of €2 per transaction.
-
Teaching and research staff, administrative and technical staff, doctoral candidates
The BUL covers automatically the cost for international loan requests for registered readers. Each request is made online via Bibnet.lu. Please note that these readers must be also registered to the BnL (national Library of Luxembourg).
How to proceed in order to receive an article or a book?
- You are a member of the University Library and have a member card with user name and password.
- Connect to the interface of the
Bibnet.lu
catalogue and complete the request form on the international loan pages to order the article or book desired. The international loan service of the National Library will process your request.
- If possible, the electronic article will be sent directly to the e-mail address you have specified, while the paper version will be sent to your campus.
- Please note that some of these ordered books are available for consultation only in the National Library.
