Sean Takats leads the Digital History Advanced Research Projects Accelerator (DHARPA) at the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C²DH). He studied economics and history and is currently Professor of Digital History and FNR PEARL Chair at the University of Luxembourg. Takats earned his PhD in 2005 at the University of Michigan and worked as Assistant Professor (2007-2013) and Associate Professor (2013-2019) at George Mason University, where he was Director of the Research Projects Division at the Roy Rosenzweig Center for History and New Media.

Takats is Director of Zotero, and he is Principal Investigator of Tropy. Together with Sharon M. Leon (Michigan State University), Takats leads the Corporation for Digital Scholarship, a nonprofit which operates the business model for a range of digital history software projects.
