Europe Direct University of Luxembourg

Europe Direct University of Luxembourg (ED-UNILU) is geared towards a broad audience, with the aim of informing students, researchers, teachers and the general public about issues related to the European Union’s history and current affairs, as well as reflecting on potential future challenges.

Creation

Following its participation in the European Commission call for proposals in 2017, the University of Luxembourg was selected as a partner to run a Europe Direct Information Centre (EDIC) for the period 2018-2020.

The agreement establishing EDIC University of Luxembourg was signed on 28 March 2019 by Prof. Dr Stéphane Pallage, Rector of the University, and Yuriko Backes, Head of the European Commission Representation in Luxembourg.

This first project having been a success, a second one followed in May 2021. The agreement for establishing Europe Direct University of Luxembourg (ED-UNILU) for the period 2021-2025 was signed by Prof. Dr Stéphane Pallage, Rector of the University, and Stephan Koppelberg, Acting Head of the European Commission Representation in Luxembourg.

Missions

Europe Direct University of Luxembourg is geared towards a broad audience, with the aim of informing students, researchers, teachers and the general public about issues related to the European Union’s history and current affairs, as well as reflecting on potential future challenges

It organizes a number of lectures, seminars, discussions and exhibitions, and offers a wide range of information about the history of European integration, the EU institutions and the workings and policies of a united Europe.

Europe Direct University of Luxembourg maximises the potential of its location at the heart of the Greater Region, in one of the EU’s permanent capitals.

It makes a major contribution to citizen education, especially among young people, raising awareness about the European Union’s policies and helping develop teaching and research on European integration in Luxembourg.

Location

Based in the Luxembourg Learning Centre (LLC) on Belval Campus, Europe Direct University of Luxembourg is coordinated by the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History (C2 DH) – the University’s third interdisciplinary research centre, which focuses on high-quality research, analysis and public dissemination in the field of contemporary Luxembourgish and European history.

Europe Direct University of Luxembourg will be managed by Dr Elena Danescu, a Research Scientist at the C2 DH.
