Bachelor - Third country national applicants

 

Any person who is a national of a country other than the EU, the EEA and Switzerland is considered a third country national applicant.

Admission criteria

 

According to Art. 32 of the Universities Act, access to Bachelor's degree programmes is possible for the following persons:

  • Holders of a Luxembourg secondary school diploma
  • Holders of a diplôme de technicien with successful completion of the preparatory modules
  • Holder of a diploma recognised as equivalent by the Ministère de l'Education Nationale, de l'Enfance et de la Jeunesse.

1. Third country national applicant

  • with a Luxembourg secondary school-leaving certificate or a Luxembourg secondary technical school leaving certificate, or a Luxembourg secondary school leaving certificate in classical or general secondary education
  • and a Luxemburg residence permit

You are a third country national applicant with a Luxembourg secondary school-leaving certificate. You are eligible for all Bachelor study programmes.

As you have a residence permit in Luxembourg, the application deadlines are the same as for European applicants.

If you are not yet in possession of your degree during the application period of the chosen study programme, you can submit your application online. In any case, you must apply no later than the deadline set by the study programme.

If your application is accepted, you will receive a letter of conditional admission.

As soon as you receive your school-leaving certificate and transcript, you can upload these documents via your admissions portal to complete your application. A letter of final admission will then be sent to you together with the invoice for the enrolment fees in order to validate your final enrolment.

After validation of your payment, you will receive your student card and enrolment certificate.

2. Third country national applicant

  • with diplôme de technicien with successful completion of the preparatory modules
  • and a Luxemburg residence permit

You are a third country national applicant with diplôme de technicien with successful completion of the preparatory modules. You are eligible for a limited number of Bachelor study programmes

Access to the first year of studies in Bachelor's degree programmes is open to holders of a diplôme de technicien who have successfully completed preparatory modules in the relevant subject area of the intended study programme.

If you are not yet in possession of your degree during the application period of the chosen study programme, you can submit your application online. In any case, you must apply no later than the deadline set by the study programme.

3. Third country national applicant

  • holding a school-leaving certificate issued by a Member State of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or the Swiss Confederation,  or issued by a school in Luxembourg which does not follow the official Luxembourg programs
  • and having a residence permit for Luxemburg

You must submit a request for equivalence of your diploma to the Ministère de l’Education Nationale, de l’Enfance et de la Jeunesse in Luxemburg.

Equivalence procedure to be submitted to the respective Ministry.

This procedure also applies to any applicant with a secondary school-leaving certificate issued by the IBO (International Baccalaureate). Please note that the procedure does not apply to candidates with a secondary school-leaving certificate issued by the European School.

4. Third country national applicant

  • holding a school-leaving certificate issued by a state of the European Union (EU) outside of Luxemburg, the European Economic Area (EEA) or the Swiss Confederation
  • and not having a residence permit for Luxemburg.

You must submit a request for equivalence of your diploma to the Ministère de l’Education Nationale, de l’Enfance et de la Jeunesse in Luxemburg.

Equivalence procedure to be submitted to the respective Ministry.

We recommend that you complete this procedure before submitting your application.

If you are admitted, you will be required to:

  • study full-time, in accordance with the Law of 29 August 2008 on the free movement of persons and immigration, students who are third country nationals cannot be admitted on a part-time basis.
  • obligatorily reside on the Luxembourg territory. For any application for a residence permit to be made by 1 July at the latest, please consult the procedure via the website of the government.
    Unless the candidate is admitted to a multinational study programme (organised in partnership with foreign partner universities) and holds a residence permit in the Schengen area, there is the possibility to request a mobility notification from the Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs

You will get the possibility to pay your enrolment fees only once arrived in Luxembourg.

5. Third country national application

  • holding a school-leaving certificate issued by a state outside of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or the Swiss Confederation
  • and having a residence permit for Luxemburg.

You must already be in possession of your secondary school-leaving certificate (or certificate of successful completion) and the equivalence certificate of your diploma when you submit your application.

Equivalence procedure to be submitted to the Ministère de l’Education Nationale, de l’Enfance et de la Jeunesse in Luxemburg.

6. Third country national applicant

  • holding a school-leaving certificate issued by a state outside of the European Union (EU), the European Economic Area (EEA) or the Swiss Confederation
  • and not having a residence permit for Luxemburg

Required language skills

All candidates must prove proficiency in the teaching languages of the chosen programme at the University of Luxembourg. The language skills required for each programme are listed in the dedicated programme web page according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).
