How do supply chains change when it becomes real?

Metal additive manufacturing (AM) is considered to be at the edge of full industrial applicability and there are first examples of companies who restructure their production processes to exploit the superior design options and stable structures enabled by metal AM.

Industry studies see the great potential of AM in reducing unnecessary transportations and fully reshaping the structure of modern supply chains.

This roundtable brings together professionals and specialists at the interface of production and supply chain management in order to discuss impacts on supply chains created by metal AM in the short- to mid-term. Questions to be addressed may include the following:

  • How far may changes in supply chains reach?
  • What is the impact on vertical integration or outsourcing?
  • Is it necessary to increase intellectual property security?
  • What might be new roles in modern metal AM enhanced supply chains?

Arvid Eirich, Director Finance, Sales and Technology, Mobility goes Additive e.V., Berlin
