Owiso Owiso is a doctoral candidate in public international law under the supervision of Prof. Matthew Happold, having joined the University of Luxembourg in February 2019.

Owiso holds an LL.B from the University of Nairobi (Kenya), a PGD-Legal Practice from the Kenya School of Law), an LL.M from the University of Pretoria (South Africa) and a MAS from the University of Geneva (Switzerland). He is licensed to practise law in Kenya, having been called to the Kenyan Bar in January 2016. Prior to joining FDEF, Owiso assisted the UN Special Rapporteur on the Human Rights Situation in Eritrea as a research assistant, and undertook internships at the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights in Geneva, Switzerland and at the International Criminal Court in The Hague, The Netherlands. His doctoral research focuses on the international criminal justice obligations of regional inter-governmental organisations. His other research interests include international criminal courts/tribunals, transitional justice and human rights.
