From 9 to 11 March 2023, the team composed of three LL.M. students of the University of Luxembourg, Clémence Dupuy, Estelle Née and Giulia Areddu, coached by Doctoral researcher Federica Velli, participated in the European Law Moot Court (ELMC) Regional Final held at the Abat Oliba CEU University in Barcelona, Spain.

After successful completion of two written pleadings in November 2022, the team was selected to participate in the oral phase at the Regional Final in Barcelona. It is here that the simulation of the oral proceedings before the Court of Justice of the European Union comes to life. Students make their oral submissions on a fictional case taking the role of Applicant, Defendant, and Agent of the European Commission or Advocate General before a panel of academics and practitioners acting as judges.

This year, the case required students to analyse substantive and procedural legal issues concerning EU restrictive measures, the EU Environmental Liability Directive, and EU citizenship. Competing among the best 11 teams out of 80 selected teams, the Uni.lu ELMC team delivered brilliant oral pleadings and achieved remarkable results at the Regional Final.
