Professor of Civil Law at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance, Élise Poillot, has been appointed as a foreign expert for the Italian National Agency for the Evaluation of Universities and Research Institutes (ANVUR) Research Quality Assessment (VQR) by the Italian Minister of Education and Research.

Prof. Poillot will join a team of three other experts to conduct an anonymous peer review of comparative law research published in Italy. Lasting approximately eight months, the review process will begin during the Spring 2021 semester. At the end of the review period, a report will be sent to the Italian Minister who will then allocate public funding to each institution based on the evaluation of the panel.

Fluent in Italian and an expert in comparative private law, Prof. Poillot has a unique skill set which allows her to analyse and evaluate the quality of legal research written in Italian. For Prof. Poillot, this will be the second time working with the Italian Ministry of Education and Research. She was previously appointed to a committee which evaluated and selected candidates for professorial positions in the field of law at public institutions. Her experience as an assessor, however, extends beyond Italy. Prof. Poillot has also served on an independent panel of experts to evaluate research and teaching quality at Belgian and Canadian universities.

Prof. Poillot is looking forward to taking part in the evaluation, meeting new colleagues and learning from the research that she will be evaluating. “This will give me the possibility to broaden my horizons and also be confronted with young researchers and their ideas,” said Prof. Poillot, “I am sure that I will come out of the process with a new and fresh view on this area of legal research.”
