Sustainability Lunchtime Seminars: Where Environmental Law Meets Economic Law

Abstract

While the financial risks of climate change have received much attention and informed changes in EU laws and policies, this is a limited approach in light of the world's sustainability challenges. In this seminar, Professor Beate Sjåfjell draws on a research-based concept of sustainability to broaden and deepen the concept of climate change risks to a concept of financial and corporate risks of unsustainability, bringing in a full range of environmental, social, economic and governance aspects. With this as a basis, Professor Sjåfjell discusses how such a research-based approach can better function as a driver for corporate sustainability and presents suggestions for integrating this approach into law and business practice.
