The Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance is happy to welcome all new and returning students for the academic year 2018-2019!

Over the course of two weeks, the FDEF hosted welcome events for students from its three Bachelor and 12 Master programmes. In addition, students were able to benefit from a range of activities organised through the University of Luxembourg, the Office of Student Life, and various student associations.

The Course Directors had a few surprises in store for the new arrivals, in particular. Students from the Master in Entrepreneurship and Innovation were given a tour of the House of Entrepreneurship, an initiative of the Chamber of Commerce, to gain first exposure to the country’s start-up ecosystem. The Master in Economics and Finance meanwhile hosted Dariush Yazdani, a Partner at PwC, who offered an introduction to the Luxembourg asset management industry, one of the country’s financial centre’s strongest pillars.

Students from the Master of Laws (LL.M.) programmes were treated to a panel discussion with data protection activist Maximilian Schrems whose law suit against Facebook for data protection violations led to the dismantling of the EU-US Safe Harbor Agreement. The panel on 17 September addressed a second case brought before the Court of Justice of the European Union by Mr Schrems regarding collective action and consumer status.

The Faculty also welcomed students to the Bachelor en Droit, the Bachelor en Gestion and the Bachelor en Sciences Économique et de Gestion as well as its Master programmes in Accounting and Audit, Banking and Finance, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and Wealth Management.

We would like to wish all students the best of success for their studies at the University of Luxembourg and a good start to the academic year 2018-2019!
