The focus of the second edition of the October Days for Sustainable Development will be on SDG 10 – Reduce inequality within and among countries. It is well documented that income inequality is on the rise, with the richest 10 percent earning up to 40 percent of total global income. The poorest 10 percent earn only between 2 percent and 7 percent of total global income. In developing countries, inequality has increased by 11 percent if we take into account the growth of population.

These widening disparities require the adoption of sound policies to empower the bottom percentile of income earners, and promote economic inclusion of all regardless of sex, race or ethnicity. This conference aims to explore the multiple ways in which the goals interact with the issue of inequality, through the different dimensions of sustainability they address - across generations, individuals and social groups - and explore best practices towards the goals.

The objective of the October Days for Sustainable Development is to offer an arena for analysis of and comments on the SDGs in order to follow up on the process of their understanding, implementation and assessment. Many different contributors from the academic world, the institutional sector, and civil society are invited to share their views and analyses from their own perspectives.
