Master in Gerontology

Highly qualified specialists that focus on geriatric work environments

Background

Individual and social ageing poses major challenges to individuals, families, social institutions and society as a whole. The Master in Gerontology qualifies professionals to face complex tasks in the fields of prevention, rehabilitation, counseling, care and support of the elderly in Luxembourg in order to meet the growing demands.

Structure

The programme focuses on a practical approach and primarily addresses professionals in geriatric work environments in Luxembourg. It is a part-time training programme that can be followed while working, lasting 8 semesters.

Overall, the programme consists of 13 to 14 days per semester during the first and second year and about 10 days per semester during the third and fourth year, with five hours per day. Classes take place on Friday afternoons from 13.15 to 16.30, on Campus Belval, Esch-sur-Alzette

Requirements and enrolment

  • Proficiency in French and German at level B2 of the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)
  • A bachelor's degree (180 ECTS) in gerontology or a related field (e.g. nursing, psychology, social work, medicine, geriatrics); or
  • Formal qualification(s) in gerontology or related disciplines appearing on the register of certificates of academic education, higher education section, referred to in Article 68 of the Law of 28 October 2016 on the recognition of professional qualifications, corresponding to level six (6) of the framework of Luxembourg qualifications referred to in Article 69 of the aforementioned Law.
  • For the validation of the acquired experience referred to in Article 33(1) of the Law, that does not meet the conditions defined in Article 32 of the Law, the following shall be taken into account:
    • Relevant higher education studies previously undertaken by the candidate; and
    • Acquired professional experience corresponding to the pursuit, whether or not continuous, for a cumulative period of at least three years of full-time equivalent professional activity; as an employee, self-employed person or volunteer in administrative, medical, socio-educational, psychosocial, gerontological or nursing fields.

Online registration

Anyone interested in this programme must submit an application file with the following documents:

  • a motivation letter
  • a curriculum vitae that focuses on vocational and other training, functions and professional experiences
  • photocopies of diplomas and other supporting documents from previous training courses

All candidates must undergo a preliminary selection interview which allows the training directors to check whether the candidate meets the required profile and to clarify his/her personal motivations.

The next cohort begins in September 2023. Online registrations are open from April 3 to June 18, 2023
