On the occasion of the World Standards Day 2020, Prof. Peter Plapper from the University of Luxembourg received the “National Delegate for Standardization trophy” from the Institut Luxembourgeois de la Normalisation, de l'Accréditation, de la Sécurité et qualité des produits et services (ILNAS).

This year, due to the global health crisis, the "National Delegate for Standardization" awards ceremony took place during a small gathering on ILNAS premises. Mr. Jean-Marie Reiff, Director of ILNAS, had the pleasure of delivering this award to Prof. Peter Plapper, Professor within the Department of Engineering (DoE) at the University of Luxembourg.

Prof. Peter Plapper is one of the national delegates registered in the ISO technical committee ISO/TC 154 "Processes, data elements and documents in commerce, industry and administration", which was responsible, among other things, for the development of the ISO 22468 "Value Stream Management (VSM)" standard. Together with his team from the engineering department of the University of Luxembourg, they worked for 8 years in several research projects and took the lead of the technical committee’s working group 7 throughout the development of the ISO 22468 standard. During the project, Prof. Peter Plapper held the chairmanship of this working group.

With the support of ILNAS, the ISO 22468 "Value Stream Management (VSM)" standard was published in March 2020. It is important to note that this is the first time the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) published an international standard based on a Luxembourg standardization proposal. The standard makes it possible to identify and reduce waste at the level of value streams commonly used in industry. With his team, Prof. Peter Plapper also contributed to the writing of the book “Creation of an ISO Standard at the Example of Value Stream Management Method" which is directly related to the writing of ISO 22468.
