Scholarships

The Luxembourg Ministry of Foreign and European Affairs and the Ministry of Research and Higher Education fund a talent support programme, the Guillaume Dupaix International Master’s Scholarship, to attract high-achieving international students who wish to enrol on a Master’s programme at the University of Luxembourg.

Master

All eligible (see below under eligibility criteria)

Up to 2 years

Max. 30 students per year (10 per faculty)

• International applicants from both EU and non-EU countries applying for a Master’s degree
• Only available for Master programmes that run their two-year programme in Luxembourg. Master programmes that have a mandatory semester or year abroad are not eligible.
• Excellent academic performance during undergraduate studies
• Fulltime students
• Non-beneficiaries of Luxembourg’s State Financial Aid for Higher Education (formerly CEDIES)

Applicants from third countries

Please carefully read the information provided to applicants and students.

The stipend amounts to €10,000 per academic year for up to two years.

One part of the scholarship covers student accommodation and the remaining part is an amount paid in instalments at the beginning of each semester for a maximum of two years.

The scholarship is subject to performance evaluation and may be withheld, for example in the event of academic misconduct, poor academic performance or withdrawal from the Master’s programme.

Tuition fees are not included in the scholarship.

The scholarship cannot be cumulated with any other type of grant financed by the Luxembourg government, or a similar scholarship funded by a private sponsor.

Accommodation

Part of the scholarship is used to fund the student’s accommodation in a university residence for the duration of the Master programme, up to a maximum of €650/month for a maximum of two years.
The scholarship does not cover the security deposit and home insurance. The student will need to apply for their accommodation in a timely manner and closely follow the instructions and deadlines in the accommodation section.

1. Apply for the Master’s programme:

First, we would invite you to consult the admission requirements specified on the webpage of the Master programme you are interested in to ensure that your application will be complete.

You should then submit your Master’s application and all the required documents via our online admissions portal.

2. Evaluation of your Master’s application:

Once your application is complete, it will be forwarded to the director of the selected Master’s programme.

If the Programme Director considers that your application meets the required criteria of excellence, you will receive a notification inviting you to apply for the excellence scholarship separately. The link to submit your scholarship application will be included in this notification.

3. Scholarship application:

For your online scholarship application you will need to:

• Complete the dedicated online form;
• Attach a personal statement outlining your reasons for applying and presenting your strengths;
• Attach two academic recommendation letters.

Once you have submitted your scholarship application, it will be evaluated.

We encourage you to follow these steps carefully to ensure that your application is managed efficiently.

Selection procedure:

The selection process involves an internal evaluation procedure.

Finalists should be notified by mid-May 2024 and they will need to confirm acceptance of the scholarship within three working days.

All applicants will receive a final response.

Upon arrival at the University of Luxembourg in September 2024, scholarship recipients will sign a Scholarship Agreement, including a sworn declaration accepting the terms and conditions of the Guillaume Dupaix International Master’s Scholarship.

The main objective of the Fondation Léa Sinner is to support students in their higher education studies. The foundation also aims to support underprivileged young people living in Luxembourg, with the purpose of improving their social conditions. The target group is European Union (EU) citizens residing in the Luxembourg intend to complete a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at the University of Luxembourg.

Applicants are eligible for a Léa Sinner grant if they are:

• Holders of a secondary school degree or equivalent
• Not yet registered on a subsequent Bachelor or Master programme
• Citizens of Luxembourg or from the European Union
• Residing in Luxembourg
• Committed to completing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree at the University of Luxembourg
• The applicant’s family income may not exceed three times the minimum wage

In the absence of qualifying applicants, no scholarships will be awarded for the year in question. 

Applicants are invited to submit the following documents (in English, French or German):

• A letter of motivation
• A curriculum vitae, including copies of their diplomas, certificates, and official supplement to these
• Proof of parents’ income, confirmed by a copy of the pervious year’s tax return
• Family status
• Proof of residence in Luxembourg
• A certificate of enrolment at the University of Luxembourg

The selection committee, composed of three professors, one from each faculty at the University of Luxembourg, will evaluate the applications on the basis of the selection criteria outlined above.

The Beneficiaries of the pervious year who pass their exams will receive the grant for a further year. In order to receive the grant, they are requested to submit the application form.

The three professors will pre-select up to six applicants and will communicate the results to the Fondation Léa Sinner. The Management Committee of the Fondation Léa Sinner will validate the final selection of scholarship recipients.

As well as issuing credit cards under its own brands, the bank also partners with over 240 companies, associations and financial institutions who use Advanzia co-branded credit cards to create a competitive advantage. Advanzia had 204 employees at the end of 2020.

Master

Master of Science in Finance and Economics.

Advanzia Bank plans to continue to offer the scholarship every two years to one student. It includes a monthly stipend, an internship opportunity as well as the possibility of a summer job. 

Advanzia Bank will give the chosen Master’s student the opportunity of an internship in Advanzia Bank’s Risk Department in their fourth semester.

The internship will have the maximum duration of six months (one semester). During this time the master student will have the opportunity to finalise her/his master thesis.

A stipend of €500,00 per month will be paid in the first year (M1) for a period of 12 months. This will be increased to €750,00 per month in the second year (M2) for a period of 12 months.

If the student does not successfully pass M1, the stipend with the monthly contribution will automatically end and Advanzia Bank will be free to select a new high-potential student. The stipend may be cumulated with the Advanzia Bank internship compensation scheme. The cumulated stipend and internship duration may not surpass two years in total, the standard length of a Master programme.

Applicants are invited to send their letter of motivation to the Study Programme Director.

The recipient is selected by the M1 Programme Director of the Master of Science in Finance and Economics after consulting Advanzia Bank and an interview of the student is organised with the bank’s CFO and HR Department.

The student is selected on the basis of their past results and financial needs.

Applicants are eligible for the fellowship if they:

• speak excellent English
• are as finance students interested in the business model of Advanzia Bank have excellent mathematics, statistics, IT, and risk management skills.

In addition to the grant, the students will have the opportunity to participate in an internship programme at Allen & Overy’s office in Luxembourg. Moreover, scholarship recipients will benefit from additional mentoring and soft-skills development provided by Allen & Overy, such as CV writing and job market advice, participation in networking events, and invitations to industry conferences and seminars.

Allen & Overy also offers internship and mentoring opportunities to other high-achieving students in their third and final year of the Bachelor in Law. These applicants will be nominated by the Study Programme Director, before being invited to a hiring interview with Allen & Overy.

• proof of income of their parents/persons with parental authority, which must be confirmed by a copy of their tax return from the previous tax/financial year

• proof of residence in the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg or in the Greater Region of Luxembourg
• a certificate of enrolment at the University of Luxembourg

• Selected as a student on the Master in European and International Tax Law
• Committed to undertaking full-time studies in the Master in European and International Tax Law 

Applicants are invited by the University of Luxembourg to include in their application to the Master in European and International Tax:

• a cover letter expressing their interest in obtaining the scholarship, outlining their reasons for pursuing a career in taxation and their financial situation.

The University, together with the ATOZ Foundation under the aegis of the Fondation de Luxembourg, will select the recipient students and fund their grants.

The selection committee, composed of Prof. Dr Werner Haslehner (University of Luxembourg) and the members of the ATOZ Foundation Management Committee, will consider each applicant’s cover letter, as well as their overall impression of the applicants and their financial needs.

Please note that incomplete applications will be immediately rejected. No appeal is possible against the decisions. By applying to the scholarship programme, the applicant accepts these regulations in their entirety. 

The selected students will have to sign a separate “fellowship agreement” to benefit from the scholarship programme.

The University of Luxembourg signed a partnership agreement with Baloise Assurances Luxembourg SA and Baloise Vie Luxembourg SA in February 2020 providing a framework for a student fellowship and internship programme.

Bachelor en Gestion or Bachelor in Economics

The cumulated stipend and internship duration may not surpass three years, the standard length of a Bachelor programme.

• A monthly stipend of €300 for the regular duration of the Bachelor programme (semester 4-6 for the Bachelor en Gestion and semester 5-6 for the Bachelor in Economics)
• An internship in one of its departments

The internship semester will not be covered by the stipend but will be paid according to Baloise internship rules.

• enrolled in the third semester of the Bachelor en Gestion or the fourth semester of the Bachelor in Economics
• not registered in a subsequent Bachelor or Master programme
• citizens of Luxembourg European Union nationals
• residing in Luxembourg or the Greater Region of Luxembourg

• a letter of motivation, indicating which department of Baloise the candidate would like to join during the internship
• a CV, including copies of their diplomas, certificates and official supplements to these

• an enrolment certificate at the University of Luxembourg (if selected the student will have to submit such a certificate of enrolment to Baloise each semester)

A Selection Committee composed of the Head of Human Resources and another Head of Baloise (Operations or Corporate Governance) will evaluate the applications based on the selection criteria outlined above.

The management of Baloise Assurances Luxembourg S.A. and Baloise Vie Luxembourg S.A. will then validate the final selection of scholarship recipients.

The Ferrero Fellowship is a talent support programme founded in 2017 as part of a partnership between the Ferrero HQ in Luxembourg and the University of Luxembourg. The Fellowship consists of a stipend and the opportunity to carry out an internship at the company.

Master

Law, Economics and Finance

Regular duration of study

The stipend is paid in instalments (€2,700 at the end of each semester) for the regular duration of study. Payment is subject to a performance assessment and may be withheld, for example in the event of academic misconduct, poor results or withdrawal from the Master programme.

If a selected student does not need accommodation in one of the University’s residences, a sum of €5,400 will be given to the student at the end of each of the two years of the Master programme.

Detailed terms and conditions are set out in an agreement signed between the selected student, the University of Luxembourg and Ferrero upon selection of the successful applicants.

Variable

The Ferrero Fellowship is open to students on the following Master programmes:

• Master in Accounting and Audit
• Master in Entrepreneurship and Innovation
• Master in European Law
• Master in Finance and Economics

Applicants must be enrolled in the first year of one these Master programmes when they apply for the Fellowship.

Applicants must submit an application to ferrerofellowship@uni.lu including:

• Personal statement/letter of motivation
• CV
• Academic record (copies of undergraduate diplomas or other educational certificates)

Applications for the 2023-2024 academic year will open at the end of September and will close on 15 October 2023 (midnight).

Shortlisted candidates are invited to interview with a Ferrero selection committee. In addition, their applications will be assessed by the Programme Directors of the respective Master programmes.

Laureates are chosen based on:

• Academic achievement
• Civic engagement, volunteer work or other extracurricular activities
• Originality of the personal statement and reasons for applying
• Language skills (English is mandatory, any additional language is an asset)

During their second year of study, Fellowship laureates will be given the opportunity to complete an internship at Ferrero HQ in Luxembourg. Internships will be allocated in agreement with the host company and are subject to an internship contract.

The Ferrero HQ in Luxembourg is home to several business functions of the company and every reasonable effort will be made to assign placements according to the career interests and ambitions of the Fellowship laureates.

The Fondation Jacqueline NOEL, under the aegis of the Fondation de Luxembourg, grants merit-based scholarships for recently graduated doctoral graduatesstudents of the University of Luxembourg who completed a PhD having defended their thesis in the fields of eEconomics or Iinternational Ddevelopment.

The Fondation Jacqueline NOEL was created in homage tribute to Jacqueline NOEL, a world citizen of the world and fervent European. Jacqueline NOEL shared the belief of Nelson Mandela, a figure whom she had the chance to meet during her career, that “education is the most powerful weapon which you can use to change the world.”. Born during the German occupation, JacquelineMrs. NOEL grew up to bewas a dedicated student, earning a PhDDoctorate in Economics Sciences from the Université Libre dein Bruxellesssels. She began her career as a researcher at the World Bank, then at the European Investment Bank.

The foundation was created in her memory by her dear friend in the hopes of perpetuating JacquelineMrs. NOEL’s values and ideals, namely the belief that hard work and dedication can lead to fulfilment in one’s life while creating positive change for the benefit of all.

Linklaters Luxembourg and the University of Luxembourg have partnered to launch the Linklaters Making Links Programme in Luxembourg, recognising and supporting outstanding students pursuing a Bachelor of Law degree in the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF).

The Making Links Programme, which is also being implemented in Amsterdam, Brussels, Lisbon, Milan, Paris and Stockholm is specifically designed to help talented university students from underrepresented groups succeed in their early careers by supporting the development of technical and professional skills whilst building strong commercial fluency and a global outlook.

Two high-potential students, who also demonstrate financial need, will be selected in their third year of the Bachelor in Law degree and will receive a scholarship of €3,000 during their final year. They will also be offered a legal summer internship at Linklaters.

Inspired by the ideals of Pierre Werner, the Pierre Werner Scholarship fosters European integration. The Fondation Pierre Werner, under the aegis of the Fondation de Luxembourg, awards an annual scholarship to outstanding postgraduate students from European countries (except Luxembourg) in the fields of law, economics, finance and political sciences at the University of Luxembourg.

The Pierre Werner Scholarship amounts to €26,000 for one academic year. The scholarship maybe divided into awards to up to four successful applicants. 

As of 2020, the grant for each student will be fixed at €6,500 maximum. The University may grant three or four scholarships.

• EU nationals (excluding Luxembourg) or citizens of a recognised candidate for future membership of the EU (Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Moldova, Montenegro, North Macedonia, Serbia, Türkiye and Ukraine)
• registered for PhD studies at the University of Luxembourg at the time of application, may be at any stage of their studies

A selection committee composed of four professors from the University of Luxembourg (the Head of the Doctoral School in Law, the Head of the Doctoral School in Economics and Finance, the Head of the Institute of Political Science and the Dean of the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance) will evaluate the submitted applications on the basis of the selection criteria outlined above.

The four professors will pre-select up to four applicants and will communicate the results to the Fondation Pierre Werner. The management committee of the Fondation Pierre Werner will make the final selection of the scholarship recipients.

Luxembourg-based audit firm PKF Audit & Conseil (PKF) and the University of Luxembourg have signed a three-year agreement to provide fellowship and internship opportunities to students enrolled in the Master in Accounting and Audit, offered by the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance (FDEF). PKF Audit & Conseil is a member of the PKF International Network of accountancy firms with over 220 member firms in 150 countries.

Master in Accounting and Audit

The student will receive a stipend, paid in two instalments over the second year of study, and subject to a mid-term assessment of academic results by the Study Programme Director. Additionally, the student will also be invited to pursue an internship in the PKF Audit Department.

The student with the highest grade point average at the end of the first year of the two-year Master in Accounting and Audit programme.

If two or more students have obtained an equal grade point average, then one student will be selected among the finalists by PKF.

The student with the highest-grade point average at the end of the first year of the two-year Master in Accounting and Audit programme will be offered the fellowship and internship opportunity. If two or more students obtain an equal grade point average, then one student will be selected among the finalists by PKF.

Internships may also be offered to other students, at the discretion of PKF.
