The Nordic Steel Construction Conference 2019 took place from 18 to 20 September in Copenhagen (Denmark). For this conference, the publisher Ernst & Sohn and its Steel Construction journal introduced the new “Bernt Johansson Outstanding Paper Awards”.

Among the nominees, the second prize went to Valentino Vigneri and Prof. Christoph Odenbreit, both from the Department of Engineering, Arcelormittal Chair of Steel Construction. They were honored for their paper “Different load bearing mechanisms in headed stud shear connections for composite beams with profiled steel sheeting“. Congratulations to both of them!

The Nordic Steel scientific committee, led by Prof. Jeppe Jönsson of DTU, has evaluated all contributions and nominated seven conference contributions for the Bernt Johansson Outstanding Paper Awards 2019. The winner, runners up and nominees were thus honored during the conference gala dinner at the old Carlsberg brewery by Prof. Jeppe Jönsson and Dr. Bernhard Hauke, Editor-in-Chief of Steel Construction journal where an extended version of the nominated papers will be published.

Bernt Johansson (1942 -2017) was a Swedish engineer and Professor at Lulea University of Technology in Northern Sweden, who was especially engaged in the development of Eurocode 3 and Eurocode 4 as well as for the application of high strength steels in construction.
