
Department of Computer Science
The primary mission of the department is to conduct fundamental and applied research in the area of computer, communication and information sciences. The goal is to push forward the scientific frontiers of these fields. Additionally, support for the educational tasks at the academic and professional Bachelor and Master levels is provided as well as for the PhD program. The department is active in different research areas (Communicative Systems, Information Security, Intelligent and Adaptive Systems, Software and Systems) and supports the Interdisciplinary Centers LCSB and SnT. After a study from the U.S. News & World Report, the University of Luxembourg ranks on #172 of the world's top universities for computer science. The universities were ranked based on their reputation and research in the field.
Research AreasThe department of computer science is engaging the following research areas and topics: Communicative SystemsEmbracing the end-to-end arguments in system design, the "Communicative Systems" research area focuses on integrated research in the areas of Information transfer and communicating systems. Information SecurityThe Information Security Research Area covers research on cryptography and information security. Intelligent and Adaptive SystemsThe "Intelligent and Adaptive Systems" research area is concerned with - the theoretical foundations and the algorithmic realization of - information processing and reasoning in complex and dynamic environments given limited resources and incomplete or uncertain information.
