Master in Transnational German Studies

Admission requirements

Study Programme

  1. Proof of a Bachelor's degree in humanities or cultural sciences from a university in Germany or abroad, or a degree from a university in Germany or abroad which is not significantly different. The degree must be assessed by all partner universities as qualifying for admission to the Master's programme.
  2. The degree must include at least 50 credit points in German Studies. If the degree does not show any ECTS credit points, an equivalent amount must be proven.

Proof of language skills

Evidence of German language skills at level B2 of the European Framework of Reference must be provided. Proof of the B2 level can be provided by:

  • the German Language Diploma of the KMK - level two - (DSD II),
  • the certificate of the German Language Examination for University Admission of Foreign Study Applicants (DSH 1),
  • the Goethe-Zertifikat B2 (in all variants),
  • telc Deutsch B2,
  • the TestDaF certificate with at least four partial qualifications at level TDN 3,
  • the Austrian Language Diploma (ÖSD) B2,
  • a passed assessment test in German at a preparatory course at a university of applied sciences.

The proof of German language skills must not be older than three years at the time of the application deadline.

Proof of English language skills at level B1 of the European Framework of Reference must be provided. Proof of B1 level can be provided by:

  • University entrance qualification obtained at an English-language educational institution,
  • Degree in an English-language degree programme, Preliminary English Test (PET; University of Cambridge) or higher level,
  • IELTS (International English Language Testing System), at least 4.0 points,
  • TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language), 127 (computer-based test, CBT), 43 (internet-based test, IBT), 443 (paper-based test, PBT), Telc English B1.

The proof of English language skills must not be older than three years at the time of the application deadline.
