Dr Katrien Deroey is an Assistant Professor in Applied Linguistics and Language Teaching at the Faculty of Humanities, Education and Social Sciences. She is Head of English at the university’s language centre, linguistics lecturer in the BA English Studies and a senior research scientist in the research unit ‘Identités, Politiques, Sociétés, Espaces’ (IPSE). She has previously worked as a linguistics and EAP lecturer at universities in Belgium, the UK and Vietnam.

Her main research interests are lecture discourse, English Medium Instruction and lecturer training. Her corpus linguistic research into lecture discourse aims to inform the design of authentic lecture listening EAP materials as well as lecturer training. Additionally, she researches multilingual course design for academic speaking and writing.

She is especially interested in supervising PhD candidates in the field of corpus linguistics, lecture discourse, metadiscourse, EMI, and EAP. However, given her varied background in theoretical linguistics, applied linguistics, speech and language therapy and pathology, and English language teaching, PhD topics in these fields would generally also be of interest.
