On 6th June 2018, the University of Luxembourg and its International Relations Office invited to the annual International Awards Ceremony 2018 on Belval Campus.

The event was held to honour the winners of the Top Student Prize and the U.S. Embassy – U.S. Enterprise Scholarship, as well as all the students selected for a study abroad period outside Europe in the framework of the University’s Global exchange programme. Rector Stéphane Pallage, the Ambassador of Japan to the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, Shigeji Suzuki and Chargée d’Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Luxembourg, Kerri S. Hannan, were present to honour the students selected this year for a study period as part of one of the international programmes of the University of Luxembourg.

For many years, the University of Luxembourg has been encouraging student mobility beyond the borders of Europe and making a wide range of mobility opportunities available to its students. This year, almost 50 students have been nominated for a stay at a partner university outside Europe as part of the Global Exchange Programme. During the academic year 2018-2019, they will be studying for one term in the U.S., Australia, Canada, Japan, China, Russia, Singapore, Hong Kong, South Korea or Taiwan.

Furthermore, three of these students were awarded the U.S. Embassy – U.S. Enterprise Scholarship for their stay in the United States. This scholarship programme was launched jointly by the US Embassy in Luxembourg and the University of Luxembourg in 2008. The grant is sponsored jointly by the US Embassy in Luxembourg and by the companies Airtech, Brinks, Deloitte, IBM, John Deere Bank, JP Morgan, Pfizer, EMB, Ocean Oil, Goodyear, State Street Bank, Guardian and Covidien, Ernst & Young, Goodyear Dunlop, Michelman International, PricewaterhouseCoopers, BNY Mellon, Brown Brothers Harriman, Citi, J. P. Morgan, Northern Trust and State Street Bank. This year, the laureates are Youri Cillien, Bachelor student in Economics as well as Laura Beckers and Helena Kolfhaus, both Bachelor students in Psychology.

As to the University of Luxembourg’s Top Student Prize, it is awarded every year to nine of the best students within the University’s three faculties, who are invited to an international summer school. The Top Student Prize was first awarded in 2008 and consisted then in a summer school at Shandong University in China. Since 2012, the prize consists in a summer session in Asian studies at Sophia University in Tokyo, which will take place this year from 2nd to 27th July 2018.
