University receives strong THE subject rankings

Times Higher Education (THE) has published its World Subject Rankings 2021, listing the University of Luxembourg in ten subject areas.

The University ranks 89 worldwide in Computer Science. The University is ranked for the first time in three subject areas: Life Sciences, Clinical and Health, Arts and Humanities. It improves its ranking in four subject areas, is unchanged in one of them, and decreases in two.

In THE’s listing by subject, the 2021 edition ranks the University of Luxembourg:

  • 89 in Computer Science (90 in the 2020 ranking)
  • 101-125 in Engineering and Technology (126-150)
  • 101-125 in Life Sciences (not listed previously)
  • 151-175 in Physical Sciences (176-200)
  • 151-175 in Psychology (176-200)
  • 201-250 in Social Sciences (126-150)
  • 201-250 in Business and Economics (unchanged)
  • 201-250 in Education (176-200)
  • 201-250 in Arts and Humanities (not listed previously)
  • 301-400 in Clinical and Health (not listed previously)

THE’s World Subject Rankings cover 11 subject areas (Arts and Humanities, Business and Economics, Clinical and Health, Computer Science, Education, Engineering, Law, Life Sciences, Physical Sciences, Psychology, and Social Sciences) and provide an overview of the best institutions in the world to study a chosen discipline. The 2021 edition sees a 1,512 universities rank in at least one subject area, with 522 universities listed for the first time.

THE ranks the universities based on five criteria: teaching, research, citations, international outlook, and industry income.
