The University of Luxembourg and Fudan University recently signed a strategic partnership agreement providing the framework for scientific and educational exchange and collaboration between the two institutions.

The scope of the strategic partnership is to identify and pursue research and teaching topics of common interest, including multilingual studies, medical education and sustainable finance. Joint seminars, researcher and student exchanges and joint education cooperation activities are some of the activities expected to emerge from the partnership.

A series of international webinars were held by the Department of Life Sciences and Medicine at the University of Luxembourg and joined by Fudan University. The aim was to share international scientific experiences on the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. In the field of multilingualism, the two partners hold monthly roundtables for research exchanges, and they also work closely to build joint doctoral programmes.

The two universities partnered for the first time in 2015 setting up a student exchange agreement, which was followed by the launch of the Confucius Institute at the University of Luxembourg in 2018.

Fudan University was established in 1905 and is one of the most prestigious Universities in China. Fudan has 11 faculties, close to 40,000 students and over 3,000 teaching faculty and researchers, and is affiliated with 17 hospitals.

The strategic partnership agreement was signed by Yves Elsen, Chairman of the Board of Governors of the University of Luxembourg, Prof. Stéphane Pallage, Rector of the University, Prof. Xu Ningsheng, President of Fudan University, and Prof. Chen Zhimin, Fudan’s Vice President of Humanities and International Affairs.

The University of Luxembourg has an extensive network of partner universities worldwide. The agreement with Fudan University is part of a distinct set of strategic partnerships of the University of Luxembourg. The first such strategic partnership was launched in 2019 with the University of Montreal.
