Matthew Happold is Professor of Public International Law at the University of Luxembourg, where he teaches public international law, international dispute settlement and international human rights law. He previously taught at the universities of Hull, Nottingham and Sussex, and worked at the British Institute of International and Comparative Law. He has been a Visiting Fellow at the Human Rights Program, Harvard Law School and a Visiting Professional in the Office of the Prosecutor of the International Criminal Court.
Matthew’s publications include International Law in a Multipolar World (editor) (Routledge: 2012), Settlement of Investment Disputes under the Energy Charter Treaty (co-author with Thomas Roe) (CUP: 2011), Child Soldiers in International Law (MUP: 2005) and Constitutional Human Rights in the Commonwealth (co-editor with Michael Anderson) (BIICL: 2003), as well as articles in the Human Rights Law Review, the International and Comparative Law Quarterly, the Leiden Journal of International Law, the Netherlands International Law Review and the Yearbook of International Humanitarian Law.
He is a member of the editorial boards of the Human Rights Law Review and the Revue trimestrielle des droits de l’homme.
Matthew also practices as a barrister from 3 Hare Court, London.
