The Bachelor in Social and Educational Sciences is a multilingual and interdisciplinary university programme that combines academic skills with professional application in the fields of social work and social pedagogy. It offers a diverse choice of specialisation and individualised guidance. In Luxembourg, the BSSE gives access to the regulated profession of assistant∙e social∙e.
As part of your studies you will:
- Spend a semester in a university abroad (mobility)
- Spend time in the field (internships) during the 3rd and 6th semesters
- Write a dissertation on one of the specialisation themes of your choice.

Are you interested in issues related to life in society, in particular the relationship between individuals, groups and society? Do you want to be involved in the design and implementation of prevention, counselling, education, support or supervision programmes or projects with a social and educational aim? Does the prospect of following a diversified study programme that integrates theory and practice appeal to you? Then the Bachelor in Social and Educational Sciences may be for you.
Admission requirements
- Hold a Luxembourgish general or technical secondary school diploma, or a foreign diploma recognised as equivalent to the Luxembourgish diploma.
- Have a good command of the programme's languages of instruction, i.e. German and French at a minimum level C1 and English at a minimum level B2 according to the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.
- For the continuing education format, at least 3 years of full-time professional experience in the socio-educational, socio-political sector or in a comparable professional field are required.
Job opportunities
The Bachelor in Social and Educational Sciences offers several possibilities:
- The pursuit of a Master's degree in the field of social and educational sciences (social pedagogy, social work, social management, etc.) at the University of Luxembourg or abroad, followed by the possibility of pursuing a doctorate.
- Integration into the labour market: Employment opportunities cover a wide range of professional fields in relation to the different stages of life and the multiple social and educational challenges of our societies.
- The access to the regulated profession of social∙e assistant∙e in Luxembourg is linked to the fulfilment of a number of prerequisites within the programme.
