Ethics Review Panel (ERP)

The Ethics Review Panel evaluates the ethical aspects of research projects carried out at the University to ensure that ethical considerations are met and good scientific practices are followed.

Any research involving human participants, human biological material, personal data, or potentially harmful and/or irreversible changes to the environment, and which is prepared, conducted or published by or with the support of its Faculty, staff, junior researchers, students, or visitors, requires ethics approval before any relevant research activity takes place.

The ERP does not address suspected or alleged cases of misconduct in scientific research, which are handled by the Luxembourg Agency for Research Integrity (LARI), contact: secretarygeneral@lari.lu

Animal Experimentation Ethics Committee (AEEC)

The Animal Experimentation Ethics Committee is involved in drawing up the research policy on animal experimentation which is adopted by the Board of Governors. It examines and delivers an opinion on projects that use animals for scientific purposes. The AEEC must ensure that the use of animals for research and teaching at the University is compliant with the amended Grand-Ducal Regulation of 11 January 2013 on the protection of animals used for scientific purposes and the Act of 27 June 2018 on the protection of animals. The species concerned are those cited in the afore-mentioned Grand-Ducal Regulation, namely vertebrate animals and cephalopods.

For any planned experimentation, the AEEC ensures that the use of animals is justified, that their well-being is guaranteed and that the principles of replacement, reduction and refinement (the “3 Rs”) are applied.

To this end, the AEEC delivers an opinion on any projects carried out at the University involving the use of animals for experimental or other scientific purposes.

Ethics Advisory Committee (CCE)

• Investigates and advises on ethical issues involved in the activities of the university community upon request of the conseil universitaire or the rectorate;
• Addresses complaints, e.g. by conducting inquiries and investigations into suspected or alleged discrimination or harassment of its faculty, staff, students and visitors;

Luxembourg Agency for Research Integrity (LARI)

Established in 2016 (LARI_Statuts-RCS), the Luxembourg Agency for Research Integrity (LARI) is the national agency promoting and investigating research integrity in Luxembourg.

The mission of LARI is two-fold:

• To promote responsible conduct of research;
• To ensure an independent inquiry and investigation in cases of alleged scientific misconduct.
