University launches a website for its Esch2022 projects

In February 2022, the University’s hometown Esch-sur-Alzette will launch the European Capital of Culture 2022, under the leitmotiv REMIX. The University will support Esch2022 with eight diverse and integrative projects, and has launched a website dedicated to these activities.

The Esch2022.uni.lu website offers a clear and user-friendly way to explore and participate in the projects, and be informed of news or upcoming events. People pages allow interested viewers to get in touch with the University organisers.

Under the science glass

Participating University researchers and teachers explore the leitmotiv REMIX by using science and innovation as a bridge. By connecting science and arts, culture, architecture, history, sociology or geography, the University projects invite participants to discover elements of the past, the present and the future.

The activities are mostly designed to be participative, and lead participants to question and rethink common perceptions.

• Petite Maison centers on designing, building and deconstructing a small house in Belval by adopting a circular and sustainable approach.
• REMIX Place explores people's attachment to places in the Alzette-Belval cross-border area. Through geography, photography and theatre, activities will represent residents’ experiences, stories and emotions associated with places.
• Sound of Data explores new ways of creating, performing, and experiencing music and art by using multi-source data as the building blocks in the creative process.
• Remixing Industrial Pasts in the Digital Age associates historians, anthropologists and designers in their exploration of the Minett cross-border region's history of culture, people and goods.
• BELONG aims at providing a sense of belonging to the multicultural community of the region by embracing their cultural heritage through arts and music.
• A Colônia Luxemburguesa investigates the lives of Luxembourgish migrant workers in Brazil who built a steel plant and surrounding industrial city in Minas Gerais.
• The AI&ART pavilion is a multidisciplinary environment in which scientists, artists and the public can jointly explore the impact of artificial intelligence on and its opportunities for communities, art and culture.
• Red Luxembourg will address proximity to nature and affordable housing; two subjects of urbanism and architecture that today are ever-present in political and promotional discourse.
