If you ever wondered what biomedical research is and what a laboratory looks like then join us for a guided tour in our labs!

On the 23rd of March, the University of Luxembourg invites the public to its Open Day. A day where future students, parents and the general public can discover the university’s study programmes, the interdisciplinary centres and their research, meet other students and teachers and visit the several facilities of Campus Belval.

The 2019 open day marks a special milestone for two of the interdisciplinary research centres of the University of Luxembourg: the Luxembourg Center for Systems Biomedicine (LCSB) and the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability and Trust (SnT) are turning 10!

In this occasion, the LCSB invites you to take a look behind the scenes. If you ever wondered what biomedical research is and what a laboratory looks like then join us for a guided tour in our labs!

There will be 4 scheduled tours to explore the laboratories where researchers from different disciplines (biology, medicine, informatics, mathematics, physics, engineering, etc.) work together to better understand the mechanisms underlying diseases and develop new avenues for disease prevention, diagnosis and therapy.

Curious about:

  • How are the causes of Parkinson’s disease being researched?
  • How can nerve cells be developed from skin cells in the laboratory?
  • How can we observe molecular processes in such cells with a high-resolution microscopy?
  • What role do our intestinal bacteria play in the development of diseases?
  • How does an artificial bowel model work in the lab?

Then come and experience the real life of a scientist and join one of the LCSB lab tours!

When will the guided tours take place?

Topic 1: Parkinson’s disease – Stem Cell – Microscopy (45 min)

  • Meeting point: Entrance of the Luxembourg Learning Center
  • Start: 10:00 (DE/LUX) or 13:45 (FR)

Topic 2: Intestinal Bacteria – Artificial Gut (45 min)

  • Meeting point: Entrance of the Luxembourg Learning Center
  • Start: 10:00 (FR/LUX) or 13:45 (DE/LUX)

The LCSB will also have an information booth at the Luxembourg Learning Centre.

Other hands-on experiences at the library!

From 9:00 to 16:00 SnT and C²DH will bring some exciting technology-driven experiences at the Luxembourg Learning Centre (library).

Are you interested in drones, augmented reality or the fascinating science of cryptography? Then don’t miss the SnT booth!

If you are passionate about history, then don’t miss the exciting virtual reality experience on the C²DH booth.
