Metabolomics Platform
The Metabolomics Platform is specialised in developing and applying mass spectrometry-based comprehensive analysis methods of small molecules in complex biological samples. The Metabolomics Platform supports a wide range of cutting-edge metabolomic approaches for several sample types, including mammalian cells, bacteria, yeast, body fluids (e.g. cerebrospinal fluid, plasma, serum, urine), stool, soft tissues (e.g. brain, liver, lung, heart, kidney) and others (e.g. Dried Blood Spots).
However, to address the needs of researchers in this fast changing field, the Metabolomics Platform is continuously developing new analytical (targeted/untargeted) and tailor-made methods to address cutting-edge biological and biomedical questions. Furthermore, the Metabolomics Platform can provide a comprehensive set of tools for a reliable data analysis based on a statistical evaluation. Moreover, the highly competitive price structure enables Luxembourg researchers to obtain fast, accurate and complete data generation in order to successfully pursue their research goals.
Vision
- Combined analytical service and research facility that supports metabolism (small molecules)-related research in Luxembourg
- Directly involved in research cooperation to provide optimal analytical output
- Keeps up with latest developments in the Metabolomics field
- Method development or method optimization: Selectivity, Sensitivity, Speed
Services
- Liquid Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry (LC-MS)
- Ion Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry (IC-MS)
- Gas Chromatography – Mass Spectrometry (GC-MS)
- Access to equipment and protocols for sample preparation
- Support and advise in experimental design (mass spectrometry-based studies)
Instrumentation
The largely variable and highly dynamic profiles of metabolites pose a challenge in research, and single analytical techniques are insufficient for a comprehensive metabolomic analysis. Therefore, the LCSB has built up a reliable analytical platform to strategically address this complexity. The Metabolomics Platform currently hosts several state-of-the-art chromatography – mass spectrometry systems. In addition, the Metabolomics Platform offers fast absolute quantitative measurements of more abundant metabolites obtained by a Biochemistry Analyzer.
