Modern spectroscopy in the field of materials research:

how does sunscreen protect our skin?

During this training, you will have the opportunity to discover one of the physics workshops of the Scienteens Lab. This workshop encourages pupils to ask questions such as “how can we make sunscreen?”, “how does it work?” or “why do we need it?”, and to learn more about light sources, wavelength and particle properties of light.

The training revolves around the physics and chemistry of sunscreen and covers the following topics: optics, wave optics, transmission measurement, interference, spectrometry, environmental aspects.

After a brief introduction to the topic, you will learn how to make sunscreen yourself and to build a spectrometer during a hands-on workshop. A discussion about the results and the methodology will conclude the training.
