International Library Loan

What is international library loan (ILL) and how can I use it?

International library loan is a service organised by the National Library of Luxembourg (BnL) to obtain articles or books not available in Luxembourg.
Please read the tips below before making an international loan request.

  • Students
Students have access to the international loan service through the BnL, either via the interface of the www.a-z.lu catalogue or directly on the BnL premises. The service is invoiced at a rate of €2 per transaction.
  • Teaching and research staff, administrative and technical staff, PhD candidates
The Luxembourg Learning Centre (LLC) automatically covers the cost of international loan requests for registered users. Requests are made online via www.a-z.lu. Please note that these users must also be registered with the BnL.

How can I obtain an article or a book?

  • You must be registered with the library and have a card with a user name and password.
  • Log on to the a-z.lu catalogue and fill out the form to order the article or book. The ILL Service at the BnL will process your request.
