The Luxemburg Learning Center offers a selection of works and criticism by major English and American writers, especially authors currently taught or researched at the University, academic works on the English language, and a collection of general linguistics and literature. All printed materials as well as electronic resources can be found in the catalogue a-z.lu.

  • English authors and their critical appraisal are classified by period and alphabetical order : 82/1-92
  • American Literature : 810
  • American authors and their critical appraisal are classified by period and alphabetical order : 81/1-52
  • General Literature : 800
  • English Language : 420
  • Linguistics : 400 et 410

The older part of the collection in English Literature is signed according to a former classification (call numbers from L 10001 to L 17000) and is located in the Stacks.


Journals : PER are located in the display shelves at the beginning of the collection, classified alphabetically by title, and in the closed stacks on -1 at the LLC.

BLLDB is the online version of the "Bibliography of Linguistic Literature". It is one of the major sources of information on the internet for general linguistics with all its neighbouring disciplines and subdomains as well as English, German and Romance linguistics.

British Periodicals provides access to full-text periodicals published from the late 17th century to the beginning of the 20th century. The subjects covered are literature, philosophy, history, science, social sciences, music, art, theater, archeology and architecture.

CAIRN donne accès à l'ensemble du catalogue des collections Que sais-je? (PUF) et Repères (La Découverte). Les nouveaux titres sont intégrés au maximum un mois après leur publication papier. Le portail Cairn.info regroupe actuellement près de 200 revues en sciences humaines et sociales issues de plus de quarante éditeurs.

Cambridge Companions are a series of authoritative guides, written by leading experts, offering lively, accessible introductions to major writers, artists, philosophers, topics, and periods.

De Gruyter e-books collection

Érudit is a distribution platform that gives access to documents in the fields of humanities and social sciences as well as science: scientific journals, books, proceedings, thesises and other documents and data. The majority of texts in Erudit is available via open access. There is a subscription required for all Journals published within the last two years.

DigiZeitschriften stellt deutsche Kernzeitschriften von großer wissenschaftlicher Bedeutung für den direkten Nutzerzugriff über Internet bereit. Die Zeitschriften stammen aus folgenden Fachgebieten: Anglistik, Bibliothekswesen, Geowissenschaften, Germanistik, Geschichte, Naturwissenschaften, Neuere Philologien, Rechtswissenschaft, Romanistik, Soziologie, Wirtschaftswissenschaften, Mathematik.

JSTOR is a not-for-profit organization with a dual mission to create and maintain a trusted archive of important scholarly journals, and to provide access to these journals as widely as possible. Content in JSTOR spans many disciplines, primarily in the humanities and social sciences.

La base de données bibliographique MLA (International Bibliography of the Modern Language Association of America) donne accès à plus de 2 millions de références bibliographiques issus de revues, monographies, actes de congrès et autres publications scientifiques, en partie avec accès au Full Text.

La base de données Munzinger online donne entre autre accès à la version numérique du Kindlers Literatur Lexikon, ainsi que du Kritisches Lexikon zur fremdsprachigen Gegenwartsliteratur : KLfG (également disponibles sur papier), qui recensent des essais biographiques et critiques sur des milliers d’auteurs ainsi que des bibliographies très exhaustives.

Oxford Journals Collection offers access to abstracts and full texts of e-journals.

Oxford Scholarship Online offers full text access to new Oxford books in Biology, Business and Management, Classical Studies, History, Linguistics, Literature, Mathematics, Music, Physics, and Psychology.
Specially-commissioned abstracts and keywords are available at book and chapter level (free to non-subscribed users), and up to 400 new and recently-published books are added each year.

Britannica Online Encyclopaedia

The Oxford English Dictionary Online OED is a guide to the meaning, history, and pronunciation of more than 600,000 words, past and present, from across the English-speaking world.

Credo Reference offers access to ecyclopaedias and dictionaries in English Literature.

Cambridge Dictionaries Online is a free online dictionary with translations to- and from English.

Collins Dictionary is a dictionary for English or bilingual word reference, plus thesauruses.  

The Literary Encyclopedia is a constantly evolving and updating repository of authoritative reference work about literary and cultural history. All the articles are solicited by invitation from specialist scholars in higher education institutions all over the world, refereed and approved by subject editors in our Editorial Board. The LE is thus uniquely selective, reliable and authoritative.
