Brief CV

Christoph Schommer studied Computer Science with main focus on Artificial Intelligence at Saarbrücken University (Wolfgang Wahlster, Kurt Mehlhorn) and contributed to projects at the German Research Centre for AI in the areas of Knowledge-based Systems and Natural Language Understanding. After his studies, Christoph joined IBM Research and Development for 5 years and IBM Software Group for 3 years. As an IT Architect, he was responsible for worldwide Data Mining projects in different businesses, for example in Retail, Insurance, Banking, Sports Analytics - just to name a few. During this time, he also received his PhD from the Goethe-University Frankfurt/Main (Roberto Zicari, Wolfgang Giere) for a theoretical work about the importance of Data Mining for a Medical Healthcare (2001). Today, Christoph works as Associate Professor at the University of Luxembourg with main focus on Artificial Intelligence, Knowledge Discovery, Machine Learning, and Natural Language Processing. He heads a team of 3 PostDocs, 3 PhD candidate, and several Master students. Christoph serves as scientific referee for Leibniz Association, Springer, IEEE and as PC member at international conferences like, e.g., CogSci, ECML-PKDD, AAMAS, Digital Humanities, IEEE CBMS, and others. Besides, he organised a series of Lecture Series in the area of AI and Data Mining. Christoph teaches worldwide, among others at Tsinghua University (2015-2016), FU Berlin (each semester since Summer 2018), and Singapore University (Invited for Summer Term 2019).
