I try to obtain an understanding of mechanics of solid materials and translate this knowledge into predictive computational models, which can directly or in the long run be used by industry. I mostly focus on fibrous materials, e.g. paper(board) and (electronic) textile. My research aims to incorporate intrinsic small-scale mechanics of fibrous materials in the computational models in order to increase their accuracy. To increase the efficiency of the small-scale models, I develop and apply multiscale methodologies such as the quasi continuum method.
