UL HPC Manager, Head Digital Platforms

Research Scientist, specialized in Distributed Platforms Security and HPC/Cloud systems.

  • Expert in the deployment and management of High Performance Computing (HPC) systems, I am leading the management of the UL HPC platform and the associated expert team of system administrators since 2007.
  • Luxembourg representative within PRACE (as Advisor) (Partnership for Advanced Computing in Europe), EuroCC/CASTIEL, or several NESUS COST action (Network for Sustainable Ultrascale Computing)
  • HPC expert for the European Commission in the Enhanced Regional EU-ASEAN Dialogue Instrument (E-READI) program.
  • Active as general chair, track chair or as scientific committee member for various reference conferences and technical workgroups within my area of expertise (IEEE CloudCom, CloudNet, IPDPS, EuroPar, Big Data Congress, Optim, PCGrid, ICPADS, HPCS, CLUS, J. Supercomputing, J. of Parallel and Distributed Computing etc.).
  • Involved in several technical workgroups (Grid5000, national ICT standardization delegate within ISO/TC 307: Blockchain and distributed ledger technologies etc.) and act as Principal Investigator or as Work Package leader in various national or EU projects.
  • Recipient of a full Autorisation à Diriger des Recherches (ADR).
  • Involved in the supervision of several graduate students at all levels (postdocs, PhD., master and bachelor)  
  • Concrete contributions in several strategic projects linked to HPC and Big Data (BD) developed with multiple key decision makers in the Luxembourg context, either from the private sector or at the governmental level
  • PhD in Computer Science from Grenoble Institute of Technology and University of Luxembourg (mention: Excellent), 2007
    • Advisors : Franck Leprévost (UL) / Jean-Louis Roch (Grenoble IT)
    • Title : Security in Large Scale Distributed Systems: Authentication and Result Checking.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science (Cryptology, Security and Information Coding) with honors (1st -- mention: TB) from Grenoble Institute of Technology and University Joseph Fourrier, 2003
  • Computer Science and Engineering Degree with honors (top 10%, mention: B) – Telecommunications Department of the Grenoble Institute of Technology, 2003

Main Research Interest

  • Security and Performance Evaluation of Distributed Computing Platforms and Services (clusters, grids, HPC, clouds and P2P systems).
  • Crash/Cheating Fault tolerance in parallel computation
  • (more recently) Blockchain-based integrity protection in distributed executions

Up to now, I co-authored four books and more than nine book chapters in Computer Science. I also wrote about 80 research or popularization articles in scientific journals, or international conference proceedings.
