The Robert Schuman Initiative for European Affairs was inaugurated in April 2016. Its activities are coordinated by the Faculty of Humanities, Social Sciences and Education, the Faculty of Law, Economics and Finance and the Luxembourg Centre for Contemporary and Digital History with a focus on the interdisciplinary study of European integration and the European Union. In recognition of its academic leadership in the field of European Union studies, the Initiative has been twice awarded funding as a prestigious Jean Monnet Centre of Excellence (2015-2018, 2018-2022).
